Dear Friends, Peers, Faculty, and Family of Gregory Mantone:

Gregory Mantone '13 was a beloved member of the Ithaca College School of Music. At the time of his death, Gregory was a junior music education major; as a euphonium player and vocalist he was an active member of many of our music ensembles. Most important, Gregory was a friend and cheerful companion to many.

His classmates in the music education program and the members of the Ithaca College euphonium and tuba studio have expressed a sincere and deep desire to create a permanent memorial to Gregory within the School of Music. For a variety of reasons, the College has guidelines around the creation of memorials and how spaces and venues on campus are named.

Our goal is that a special tree outside the music school be named in memory of Gregory, with a memorial plaque placed at the site. The students made this their top wish because they believe it would be both a visible memorial and a place where students could gather in peace and in memory of their dear friend. But to plant a tree, we must first raise $5,000.

It would be terrific to make these students' wish a reality; however, there are other possibilities. If the minimum amount of $5,000 is not met by the end of our fiscal year on May 31, 2012, a memorial plaque would be placed in the student lounge and the collected funds would be used to purchase an item in Gregory's memory that would be used by music students.

Should we surpass our original goal and raise $10,000 be reached, an endowed fund could be established in Gregory's memory. If we raise $25,000, an endowed scholarship could be created.
